Sci-Fi Creatures & NPCs#
Opposition, allies, and background characters for spacefaring settings. The automated machines are statted first, since a bot is the creature a party is most likely to be travelling with.
There is a distinction to be made between robots, drones, and Androids that primarily has to do with free will and the difference between sentience and sapience. All are considered automated machines.
Drones are the most simple form of automated machine, with simple construction and AI able to understand and execute basic commands, but lacking true problem solving skills. These machines usually have a single intended purpose and will perform well, but cannot perform outside that box. If they communicate at all, it is in dronespeak or binary.
Robots or Bots contain an AI that is capable of problem solving and learning. Their chassis is also more advanced, allowing them to adapt to different scenarios. They are able to execute a broad spectrum of commands and are able to learn or attempt new tasks. Bots are sapient, able to reason and think, where drones are limited to their basic functions.
Androids are the most advanced automated machine with a humanoid chassis and an advanced AI that has, through unknown means, achieved sentience. Androids are both sapient and sentient. They display high level problem solving and critical thinking abilities alongside emotional perception and feeling, deep social bonding, and self-awareness. Unlike drones and bots Androids are not bound by master protocols, they act independently and of their own free will. For more on Androids, see the playable race entry here.
Drones, bots, and Androids all use the standard character DEF/VIT rules rather than the object durability rules — they take wounds and conditions and are repaired like a character rather than broken like an object.
Drone Platforms#
Robot Platforms#
- TRK-A — A small and reliable platform
- (TBD) — A full size humanoid robot for seamless integration
Alien Life & Crews#
Nothing statted yet. Alien life, station crews and pirates belong here.
The parts that go inside a bot are equipment rather than creatures, and stay with the rest of the gear: Bot Components.
